NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION
Teachers in Labrador West Vote to Accept Contract Proposal

June 21, 2022

Teachers in the Labrador West bargaining unit have voted to accept the tentative collective agreement which was reached with the Provincial Government and School Boards. The contract was recommended for acceptance by the Labrador West Negotiating Team and the NLTA Provincial Executive Council.

"The Association is pleased with the results of the vote and that the Labrador West tentative agreement has been ratified," says Trent Langdon, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers' Association. "I want to thank the Labrador West team and every NLTA member who participated in the ratification vote. As leader of our democratic institution, I was pleased to see strong engagement in the process. Our Association is looking forward to having the final agreement signed by all parties and working with government to improve teacher recruitment and retention in the area."

The Labrador West Collective Agreement provides some positive movement on salaries, including a retroactive increase, as well as some improvements around leaves, housing, and a committee to look into issues with recruitment and retention in the region.
