A French immersion education specialist from Prince Edward Island has been honoured by her professional association for excellence in, and dedication to, French immersion teaching.

Minister of Education and Early Years, Robin Croucher; Excellence in Immersion award recipient, Marie-Anne Roy; and Director of French Education, Programs and Services, Jaclyn Reid.
Marie-Anne Roy is the Elementary French Immersion Literacy Coordinator with Department of Education and Early Years. She was recognized for her outstanding work at the annual Canadian Association of French Immersion Professionals conference in Banff, Alberta. At this year's conference, Marie-Anne was one of two people across Canada to be presented the prestigious "Excellence in Immersion" award.
"This distinction is an extraordinary accomplishment that honours Marie-Anne's tremendous work as a French immersion professional. I offer sincere congratulations to Marie-Anne for her outstanding contribution to French immersion education on PEI, and for being recognized for her efforts."
Minister of Education and Early Years Robin Croucher
Marie-Anne Roy began her career on Prince Edward Island in 1992 and will be retiring later this year. As a strong believer in learning language through lived experience and cultural immersion she organized many educational trips to the Magdalen Islands which allowed her students to fully immerse themselves in an authentic French-speaking environment. She has also directed no less than 12 bilingual musical theatre productions. Through these projects, students have been able to develop their self-confidence, vocabulary, and fluency in both languages, while discovering the joys of performing and collaborative work.
"Marie-Anne fully embodies the values of teaching French as an additional language. She does not simply teach a language: she cultivates a love for it and promotes the French-speaking world in everything she does. We wish her all the best in the next chapter."
Minister Croucher
