During the February 26, 2025, Board Meeting, Peel District School Board (PDSB) announced the winners of the 2025-26 Student Trustee election. Elected as PDSB's 2025-26 student trustees are Amenah Gangat from Lincoln M. Alexander S.S. as the trustee representing schools north of the 401, Julia Zhu from Clarkson S.S. representing students south of the 401 and Indica Simms Johnny from Rick Hansen S.S., as the Indigenous student trustee.
Although the election takes place annually, this is only the second year students had the ability to elect an Indigenous student trustee. This role elects a self-identifying Indigenous student that is nominated by students who voluntarily self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit. PDSB is committed to Indigenous Educational Sovereignty, reconciliation and recognizes the importance of representation.
Having competed against 30 secondary students from across the board, the new student trustees will represent over 148,000 students. This important position enables the trustees to sit on Board meetings, amplify the voice of students in decisions about education in Peel and help keep students informed about policies and actions that impact them.
The student trustees will begin their term on August 1, 2025, and will be sworn in at the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.
