At the November 18 Organization Meeting, elections were held for the positions of Chair and Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees. Kate Baggott was elected as Chair of the Board of Trustees and Elizabeth Klassen was elected as Vice-Chair.
Kate Baggott, Trustee for St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake, was first elected in 2018. This is her first year as Chair of the Board.
"Public education has proven to be the greatest social invention. I am proud to be part of a movement that started with one-room school houses and has become a practical and amazing network of opportunities for every child in the Niagara Region. Helping to grow literacies, to encourage critical thinking and to cultivate curiosity in everyone is an incredible privilege. I am deeply grateful to my colleagues and constituents for allowing me to be involved," shared Baggott. "As Chair, I hope to support our team in ensuring all educational pathways remain as open as possible for everyone."
Elizabeth Klassen, Trustee for Grimsby and the Town of Lincoln, was elected Vice-Chair. Now entering her eighth year as a Trustee, she expressed gratitude and optimism for the year ahead.
"I am equipped with a deep understanding of the issues facing our Board, informed by my service on a range of committees and alignment with DSBN's Strategic Plan. With a collaborative spirit, I will work to ensure our policies and practices support student achievement. I look forward to building on our collective successes, and I sincerely thank my fellow Trustees for their support."
Chair Baggott and Vice-Chair Klassen will be in their roles through November 2026.
