UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH
College Royal Set to Continue Century-Long Traditions

March 12, 2025

The University of Guelph will open its doors to community members in March for College Royal, continuing longstanding traditions more than a century in the making.

Now in its 101st year, College Royal hosts the largest university open house of its kind in North America. Community members are invited to come experience all that U of G has to offer on March 15 and 16.

"We wanted to stick to our roots this year," says Jillian Ohm, College Royal president and fourth-year crop science student in the Ontario Agricultural College. "It's amazing to see that this tradition has lasted so long, even through trying times. It's great to see everyone back on campus."

The annual event bridges the gap between U of G and the local community, encompassing all of U of G's seven colleges. Attendees get the chance to peek behind the curtain of U of G's barns and facilities, take part in family-friendly events throughout the weekend and interact with more than 60 student clubs.

"It's a great way to see our campus and get a little taste of student life," Ohm says.

College Royal is a fully student-run event, which Ohm says represents a great opportunity for students to give back.

"It really means something to our community," she says. "It's so rewarding to see our hard work come together and experience the joy it brings people."

What to expect at College Royal 2025

Here's a taste of what visitors can expect at College Royal this year:

  • Livestock shows, in which students will showcase horses, dairy cattle, beef cattle and sheep
  • Pancake breakfasts, with a pancake flip competition on March 16.
  • Family learning about agriculture at Old MacDonald's Farm, featuring live animals and interactive displays.
  • A plant-based milkshake, with a mystery flavour to be unveiled at College Royal, developed by undergraduate students in collaboration with the Guelph Food Innovation Centre
  • Dog shows, cat shows, art exhibitions, outdoor games and much more

The commemorative mural designed to celebrate College Royal's 100th anniversary in 2024 is now complete. Visitors are encouraged to take a photo with the mural while visiting U of G this year.

College Royal is a free event open to all. Parking is also free all weekend in any campus lot.

Main buildings include the University Centre, Dairy Barn, Summerlee Science Complex, Athletics Centre and Rozanski Hall.
