The ATTIC features immersive scenario rooms and a virtual reality range, along with augmented and virtual reality training systems, giving cadets and in-service personnel the opportunity to experience realistic, high-pressure situations that mirror the challenges faced in the field. The APA has also invested in advanced technology that allows instructors to gather training data to ensure the efficacy of the training and to provide instant student feedback on performance, ensuring training is both practical and responsive to real-world demands.
Holland College President & CEO Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald says the new facility will enhance the collaboration between the APA and external Public Safety partners. "This expansion represents a significant leap forward in public safety training. By integrating virtual reality and immersive environments, we are equipping professionals with the skills and confidence they need to respond effectively in critical situations. The ATTIC positions the Atlantic Police Academy as a leader in innovative public safety training across Canada."
The expansion was made possible through a $4.8 million investment, including $4.1 million from the Province of Prince Edward Island and $681,195 from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. This funding represents a shared commitment to strengthening public safety training that benefits communities across the region.
"Delivering exceptional training and education right here in Prince Edward Island is a top priority," said Minister of Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population Jenn Redmond. "The ATTIC will ensure that public safety professionals have access to the most advanced tools and techniques to keep communities safe."
Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont said, "The Government of Canada understands the long-term value of investing in skills and training here in Atlantic Canada. Educational institutions like Holland College are leading through innovation, working directly with key industries to prepare the workforce of the future." The statement was delivered on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, P.C., K.C., Member of Parliament for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
