Chair's Outstanding Volunteer Award - Steve Georgopoulos

The Ottawa Catholic School Board is pleased to announce that Steve Georgopoulos has been honoured with the prestigious OCSB Chair's Outstanding Volunteer award in recognition of his remarkable dedication over the past five years. Steve has played a vital role as a mentor in the OCSB Social Entrepreneurs Program and has been an active member of the esteemed Kiwanis Club. His positive influence has been felt deeply in schools like St. Gregory, St. Pius X High School, and St. Michael Fitzroy. Through his humility and kindness, Steve has worked tirelessly to promote inclusivity and build confidence among our students, leaving an indelible mark on our community. In appreciation of his invaluable contributions, a beautiful crystal plaque was presented to symbolize his profound impact on a global scale.

Chair's Award for Service Excellence - Trustee Sister Shelley Lawrence

Sister Shelley Lawrence has been posthumously awarded the Chair's Service Excellence Award for her incredible dedication to Catholic education. Throughout 25 years, Sister Shelley's compassionate work as a Chaplain within the OCSB positively impacted many lives - students, staff and families alike, leaving an enduring legacy. Her commitment to the Ottawa Catholic School Board and the Society of the Sacred Heart continues to serve as an inspiration to all. Sister Sheila Smith graciously accepted the award on her behalf, upholding Sister Shelley's timeless belief, "For the sake of one child." We are honoured to celebrate such a remarkable individual and her profound contributions to our community.

Vice-Chair's Award for Community Partnership - Catholic Centre for Immigrants

The Catholic Centre for Immigrants received the Vice-Chair's Community Partnership Award in recognition of its incredible 65 years of service to newcomers in Ottawa! The CCI has played a pivotal role in helping immigrants seamlessly integrate into their new communities by offering steadfast support in settlement, employment, and education. Myriam Mekni, the Executive Director, graciously accepted the award and highlighted the profound and positive impact of CCI's partnership with the Ottawa Catholic School Board. This recognition truly celebrates their outstanding contributions to our community, and we're excited to see their continued positive impact on the lives of newcomers in Ottawa.
