ASSOCIATION POUR LA RECHERCHE AU COLLÉGIAL
Colloque interordre sur la recherche étudiante en sciences sociales et humaines: A resounding success

June 13, 2022

On June 1, the Association pour la recherche au collégial (ARC) held the first-ever Colloque interordre sur la recherche étudiante en sciences sociales et humaines [Inter-level colloquium on research activities carried out by students in social sciences and humanities] at Université de Montréal. Some 70 people were gathered in the Hall of Honour of the Roger-Gaudry pavilion to learn, share, exchange views and network.

The day began with a heartfelt welcome and a passionate appeal from the university's Dean of Arts and Sciences, Frédéric Bouchard, in favour of research in the social sciences and humanities. The colloquium objectives were then presented by Laurie Décarie-Labbé, Yara Maalouf and Adam Robaczewski students who are pursuing PhD studies in Psychology - Research and Intervention, clinical neuropsychology option at this university and who reached out to ARC to organize the event. This was followed by a presentation by Louise Poissant, Scientific Director of the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Société et culture, describing the support that the fund provides to students.

Two sessions of presentations were scheduled in the morning. During the first, findings were displayed on 14 scientific posters created by the students themselves or by ARC as part of its Student Prizes. During the second, 12 graduate students shared their findings through oral presentations. An Evaluation Committee created specifically for the occasion reviewed each of the 19 original proposals (the list appears below) presented on June 1. The colloquium was a wonderful showcase for scientific research conducted in Quebec's higher education institutions in the society and culture sector!

After lunch, participants attended a roundtable discussion with Maya Labrosse, President of the Fédération étudiante collégiale du Québec, Fred-William Mireault, President of the Comité interordres de la relève étudiante of the Conseil supérieur de l'éducation, and Simone Têtu, member of the Intersectoral Student Committee of the Fonds de recherche du Québec. All three spoke about the importance of student involvement in research and gave their first impressions of the day, which were extremely positive.

The Colloque interordre de la recherche étudiante en sciences sociales et humaines was made possible thanks to funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada through its Connection Grant Program. Lynn Lapostolle, the Director General of ARC, wrapped up the colloquium with much pride and emotion, inviting everyone to attend next year's event. Together with the Centre de transfert pour la réussite éducative du Québec, and thanks to a grant from the Ministère de l'Économie et de l'Innovation, ARC is preparing to launch a new project entitled L'expérience qui fait la différence a project that will serve as a basis in preparing the colloquium for the next three years.
