Dr. Richard Isnor appointed as new Provost and VP, Academic and Research

Mount Allison University will welcome Dr. Richard Isnor as the new provost and vice-president, academic and research. His appointment begins on July 29. 

"I am delighted to welcome Dr. Richard Isnor as Mount Allison's new provost and vice-president, academic and research," says Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Robert MacKinnon. "Richard's commitment to academic excellence, established leadership, and strong network of regional and national research and policy contacts, aligns with Mount Allison's values and initiatives and will help advance the University's mission." 

Dr. Isnor is a proud Mount Allison alumnus, having graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. He went on to earn a Master's in Environmental Studies from Dalhousie University in 1992 and a Doctorate in Science and Technology and Policy Studies from the University of Sussex in 1997. 

"I am deeply honoured to be (re)joining Mount Allison University in this capacity," says Dr. Isnor. "Mount Allison is a special university with exceptional faculty. I am strongly committed to the liberal arts and science education and experiential opportunities it offers to its students, which I personally experienced and benefited from." 

Originally from Truro, NS, Dr. Isnor has held a series of progressively more senior roles over his career, including as manager of the Atlantic Regional Office for the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), before joining St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) in 2015, where he is served on the leadership team and is currently the Associate Vice-President, Research, Graduate, and Professional Studies. Dr. Isnor also served in senior roles with the International Research Centre in Ottawa and the Privy Council Office, Government of Canada.

His appointment comes after a comprehensive national search which attracted strong candidates from across the country. Dr. Isnor's extensive background in research and academic administration will greatly benefit Mount Allison. His leadership and commitment to academic excellence and regional and national network will be invaluable in advancing the University's mission.
