CEGEP Champlain - St. Lawrence is very proud to announce that Maryna Rusakova, student in the Science program, has been selected as a 2020 Loran Scholar. This year, 36 exceptional young Canadians from a pool of 5,194 applicants were awarded a Loran scholarship based on their academic performance and, above all, for their evidence of character: integrity, courage, compassion, determination and a high level of personal autonomy.
Maryna is a very engaged student, being involved in numerous college activities and committees. She is also engaged in her community volunteering for different organizations. With a partner, Maryna launched an eco-responsible company that reduces food waste.
Loran Scholars receive opportunities to explore, develop, and share their talents over four years of undergraduate study at any of the 25 partner universities. Each Loran Award includes an annual stipend of $10,000 and matching tuition waiver, access to $10,000 in funding for summer internships, one-on-one mentorship, and annual retreats and scholar gatherings. The total value of a Loran scholarship is approximately $100,000.
Maryna is the third St. Lawrence in the last five years to become a Loran Scholar. Furthermore, numerous St. Lawrence students have also been finalists in the Loran selection process.
