BRAMPTON
City of Brampton and Peel District School Board celebrate opening of shared Collaborative Learning and Technology Centre

March 26, 2024

The City of Brampton and Peel District School Board (PDSB), have announced the official opening of a new Collaborative Learning and Technology Centre (CLTC). Adjacent to Central Peel Secondary School, the CLTC is a technology hub with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) programming.

In 2019, the City of Brampton and PDSB approved a partnership project to renovate and convert an existing PDSB building into a joint-use satellite location to serve both the school and the community. This facility features modern design, cutting-edge technology and amenities to enhance access to STEAM programs for both students and community. The centre was designed with up-to-date technology that supports learning, leading to careers in STEAM fields.

The City of Brampton's Recreation team continues to foster a collaborative relationship with PDSB to enhance the well-rounded development of the community's youth through innovative programs and inclusive initiatives. Registration for city-based programming at the CLTC is now open and available to the community. The City is committed to increasing access to spaces and programming and is dedicated to advancing opportunities for learning and growth across Brampton.

PDSB has highlighted the importance of enhancing student access to technology to foster interests and skills that pave the way for future studies and careers in STEAM. By connecting classroom learning with real-world applications, STEAM education helps students understand the relevance of their studies, prepares them for diverse career paths by providing hands-on experiences and encourages experimentation and innovation. Programming is designed to align with each student's unique strengths, accommodate diverse learning styles and leverage students' personal experiences, so that they can achieve academic success.

With the inauguration of the Collaborative Learning and Technology Centre, PDSB and the City of Brampton are paving the way for a brighter tomorrow, one where students and community can flourish and thrive in the ever-evolving landscape of STEAM education. The CLTC is the third project in the partnership between the City of Brampton and PDSB. The two previous projects include the Sandalwood Heights Secondary School Track revitalization and Turner Fenton Cricket Pitch construction.
