AMDSB is pleased to welcome back April Smith as she assumes the position of Superintendent of Education to fill the role left by Kate Creery who is set to retire. April began her official appointment on January 9, 2023 and has been appointed the Program and Equity Lead, and she will also oversee the schools that Kate supported.
April has spent the majority of her career in AMDSB. She has held the positions of System Principal - Program, Secondary Principal, Secondary Vice-Principal, and Secondary Teacher. April held the position of System Principal - Program from 2016 to 2020 prior to her promotion of Superintendent in Grand Erie DSB. Her portfolio in Grand Erie included: Assessment and Evaluation, Mathematics and Literacy Strategy, Early Years & Before and After Care, French Immersion, Outdoor Education, International Education, Experiential Learning (Co-op), Student Success (7-12) (SHSM/OYAP), and Summer Learning.
Dr. Lisa Walsh, Director of Education said: "We are excited that April is returning to our board. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. She is a courageous, visionary leader who is known for her hard work and dedication."
